With the Isabella.Stewart Gardner Museum re-opening this month, I
haven't had time to cook, garden, or do much else I usually blog about.
But I have been able to eat some delicious food at Cafe G, at the
Gardner. My sister and her husband came to visit for opening weekend and
we managed to get a reservation. I had the rosemary roasted Vermont quail with sausage
stuffing, a dish inspired by handwritten notes in Isabella Gardner's cookbook.
The flavor combination was complex, complementary and delicious. Juicy,
perfectly roasted quail, savory and salty sausage stuffing, with
bittersweet kumquats and sweet currants. Amaaaaazing.
Portions at Cafe G are small (decidedly u-American!) so if you're
genuinely hungry, make sure to order an appetizer, small plate, or dessert along
with your entree. I recommend the warm cinnamon doughnuts in champagne creme anglaise.
And of course, whether you come into the Gardner to look or eat, make sure to say hello. :)
